A Woman’s Right
To Choose?
WHO GIVES SOMEONE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE?
Yes, a woman has the ability to make choices.
But that's not the real question.
The question is:
Does she have the moral right to choose abortion?
And if so, where did that moral right come from?
CHOICE DOESN'T CREATE RIGHTS
We all have the ability to choose.
But having the ability to do something doesn't mean we have the right to do it.
I can choose to steal.
I can choose to assault someone.
I can choose to kill someone.
But my ability to choose doesn't give me the right to do those things.
So when someone says:
“A woman has the right to choose,”
we should ask:
“Choose what?”
If the choice involves ending the life of another human being, then the issue isn't merely choice.
It's authority.
WHO GIVES US HUMAN RIGHTS?
If an unborn child is a human being, then the child has a right to life.
But where do human rights come from?
Not from government.
Governments can recognize rights, protect rights, or violate rights.
They don't ultimately create the inherent value of human beings.
Not from society.
A majority cannot make killing innocent people morally right simply by voting for it.
Not from personal preference.
Your personal preferences don't create obligations for everyone else.
A genuine human right requires an authority greater than humanity itself.
If human rights are real and objective, they require an ultimate foundation and ultimate authority beyond human opinion.
The Biblical worldview says that foundation and authority is God.
GOD IS THE AUTHOR OF HUMAN LIFE
The Bible says:
“So God created man in his own image.”
Genesis 1:27
Human beings have inherent worth and dignity because God made them in His image.
God is also the Author of life in the womb:
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb.”
Psalm 139:13
Scripture even describes God as knowing a person before birth:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart”
Jeremiah 1:5a
And God commands:
“You shall not murder.”
Exodus 20:13
Why does human life matter?
Because God gives it value.
SO WHO GIVES THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE?
A woman has the ability to choose.
But if the unborn child is another human being (and it is), she does not get to create her own moral right to take that child's life simply by calling it a “choice.”
The question isn't merely:
“Does she have a choice?”
The question is:
“Who gave her the right to make that choice?”
If there is no God, then ultimately there is no transcendent authority establishing objective human rights.
But since God exists, human beings are accountable to Him.
“The earth is the LORD's and the fullness thereof.”
Psalm 24:1
Your choices are yours.
But your rights come from God.
According to the Bible, your body is not yours… it’s God’s.
And the body within the mother’s body is God’s as well.
This makes abortion wrong and a sin that must, and will, be punished by God on Judgement Day.

Forgiveness is available...
If you, or someone you know, has had an abortion, forgiveness is available if you want it.
But you must come to God on His terms.
The Bible makes it clear that abortion is murder, and that there is a price to pay for that sin. But it is not the unforgiveable sin (consider king David who had Bathsheba’s husband killed, or the apostle Paul who had Christians killed).
But you must be willing to admit that what you have done is wrong, and not make excuses. It’s the first necessary step for reconciliation before God and to receive His forgiveness.
The Biblical Gospel
God is holy and just, and has set a day in which He will judge the earth in righteousness (Acts 17:31). He will not overlook any sin. How will you do? Here’s a quick test: How many times have you ever lied, stolen, and used God’s name in vain? Jesus said, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” If you’ve done these things God sees you as a liar, thief, blasphemer, and adulterer at heart; and the Bible warns that one day God will justly punish you in Hell.
But God lovingly and mercifully provided a way for forgiveness. We’ve broken God’s moral Law, but Jesus, who was sinless, paid the fine on the cross for guilty sinners. This means God can legally dismiss their case: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Then Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death. Make up your mind/heart to turn from sin and to trust Jesus alone and trust in His righteousness (not your own failed self-righteousness), then God will forgive your sins and grant you eternal life as a free gift. Then read the Bible daily, obey it, and find a Bible-believing church where you can learn and grow as a believer.
